The Keel Row reopens under new ownership!
The Keel Row Pub and Restaurant, which was under threat of permanent closure, opened its doors again on Thursday April 14th to the delight of the local community and visitors alike. It will now be open for food 6 days a week (closed Mondays), and for drinks in the pub for 7 days a week until the end of October. There will be reduced winter opening hours from November to February - see Opening Hours.
Re-opening the Keel Row is a story of immense achievement by members of the local community. The Keel Row Pub was never a place to just eat or drink; for decades it has been the hub for village life where the community met and engaged with each other and where the owners, Marilyn and Brendan, hosted a wide range of events. The economic benefit to the local accommodation sector in having the Keel Row provide hospitality for the many visitors each year is also of great importance. And yet this essential village amenity was under threat of permanent closure.
The former owners of the Keel Row wished to retire and despite its great popularity, a buyer was not found. Aware of this real threat to the health of the community, a group of locals formed a standard commercial shareholding arrangement – the Keel Row Consortium. This would deliver continuity of operation and a solid foundation for the future. Marilyn and Brendan were enormously supportive and assisted all they could to ensure a smooth handover on opening day on April 14th 2022.
The Consortium is confident that the Keel Row will continue to be a great success and has ambitions for its future, highlighting the excellent Scottish food and drink produce available especially from Mull, Iona and Argyll. Many of the management and staff are local and all are committed to providing a warm welcome and great service.
